Dr. George Ballantyne was born in Houston, Texas, one of seven children. His father was MD Anderson’s first resident. Dr. Ballantyne attended Washington and Lee University, where he was a 4-year letterman in football in addition to being an Academic All-American. Scholastic honors included being elected to ODK and Phi Beta College. After college, he attended medical school at the University of Texas in Galveston. Upon completion of medical school, he went on to continue his education by completing a 5-year residency program in Orthopedic Surgery at UTMB. Dr. Ballantyne and his wife, Missy, have lived in Newnan, GA, since 1988, where he has practiced orthopedic surgery. During that time, he took care of three high school football teams and was president of the staff at Newnan Hospital. Ballantyne’s clinic has grown from two Orthopedic surgeons to 12 in four different locations. They have four children and nine grandchildren. Dr. Ballantyne enjoys gardening, golf, traveling, and, most of all, visiting his grandchildren.
