Legacy Giving
If you are interested in leaving a legacy gift to the Health Foundation, we would love to discuss your interest in this. There are several ways to accomplish this, and we have listed some examples below. Please reach out to our Executive Director Charlotte Muir (c.muir@hchealthfnd.org, 828-482-6513) to discuss your interest and how we can help.
Bequest
A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an attorney, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to the Health Foundation as part of your estate plan. You can also designate the Health Foundation as a full, partial, or contingent beneficiary of your retirement account (IRA, 401(k), 403(b) or pension) or name Highlands Cashiers Health Foundation as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
IRA Charitable Distribution
If you are over 70 ½ years old, you may want to support the work of Highlands Cashiers Health Foundation by donating from your IRA. IRA charitable distributions up to a certain amount are not taxed and the distribution can be used to satisfy your annual minimum distribution. Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift to the Health Foundation from your IRA.
Beneficiary Designation Gift
You can designate Highlands Cashiers Health Foundation as a beneficiary of a retirement, investment, or bank account or your life insurance policy. Contact your financial advisor, broker, insurance agent or banker and ask for a new beneficiary designation form. Complete the form, sign it, and mail it back to the appropriate person. Your account or insurance policy will then be paid or transferred to the Health Foundation, consistent with the beneficiary designation.
If you are interested in making a gift but are also concerned about your future needs, keep in mind that beneficiary designation gifts are flexible. Even after you complete the beneficiary designation form, you can take distributions or withdrawals from your retirement, investment, or bank account and continue to freely use your account. You can also change your mind at any time in the future for any reason, should circumstances change.
Charitable Lead Trust
Fund a trust that makes gifts to Highlands Cashiers Health Foundation. You will receive the gift of estate tax deduction at the time of your gift. Your family receives the trust remainder at substantial tax savings. After a period of time, your family receives the trust assets plus any additional growth in value.
