The annual Highlands Twilight 5k, held on August 17, 2024, took place at the scenic Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park, attracting approximately 240 eager participants from across Western North Carolina. Sponsored in part by the Health Foundation, the event, despite soggy conditions, was a celebration of health and wellness in the community.
Race organizer Derek Taylor expressed his excitement about the Health Foundation’s involvement, stating, “I am so excited to have the Health Foundation as part of the race this year. Their support added an extra layer of significance to the event, highlighting the importance of promoting physical activity and healthy living.”
Following the race, participants and spectators were treated to a lively rock and roll concert by the band The V8s. Despite the threat of rain, Mother Nature smiled upon the event, with the rain stopping just in time for the concert.
Congratulations to our very own Charlotte and Billy Muir for FIRST PLACE in the stroller division!
Reflecting on the success of the event, Taylor shared, “It’s such a fun event, and every year I get to meet new people who come up to run the race. We’re already looking forward to next year.” The sense of camaraderie and community spirit that permeated the Twilight 5k underscores the misison of the Health Foundation to lift health and well-being for everyone across our region.
As the sun set on another successful year, participants and organizers alike were left with a sense of accomplishment and anticipation for the next installment of this beloved community event. By sponsoring events like the Highlands Twilight 5k, the Health Foundation through Healthy Plateau continues to inspire and unite individuals in their shared commitment to health and vitality.
